About Us
Special Olympics Unified Sports UIUC is an organization that serves to join students and people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) on the same team. It was inspired by a simple principle: training together and playing together is a quick path to friendship and inclusion. Unified partners are college students without intellectual disabilities playing with Special Olympics athletes, individuals with IDD on an equal playing field. Special Olympics Unified Sports also values inclusive leadership, inviting students and Special Olympics athletes to fulfill meaningful roles and lead together in their college program. Ultimately, Special Olympics Unified Sports UIUC aims to increase inclusion on our campus and in the surrounding Champaign-Urbana community for people with IDD through sports and competition.
