8/27/2026 was a very eventful day for three of the Six Flags branded parks. Let's start with the biggest news and work our way towards the rest.
Six Flags St. Louis
Well the title is a bit misleading now as the new park owners, Enchanted Parks, announced a rebranding of the park to Mid America Adventure By Enchanted Parks. For a bit of background, Six Flags St. Louis (SFSL) was one of seven parks sold off by the Six Flags chain back in March of this year to reduce the overall debt load of the company. Six of these parks went to the previously mentioned Enchanted Parks, while the other was taken on by a shell holding company owned by Kieran Burke (current CEO of Premier Parks). With that out of the way, this annoucement is nothing too suprising, as it had been known since the sale of SFSL that the Six Flags branding would be phased out by the end of the 2026 season. Now the "new" name itself pays homage to the orignal name the park opened with as Six Flags Over Mid America. While I understand this connection, I think the new name of Mid America Adventure feels a bit bland and generic. I can already see enthusists nicknaming the park "Mid Adventure" as a play on Great Adventure, another Six Flags park. It will be interesting to see what the new owners of the park will add in the upcoming seasons, as I can't imagine that they are flush with cash after the aquisition of 6 large amusement parks. We will just have to wait and see.
Six Flags Great America
Photos surfaced online today of Six Flags Great America's new coaster for 2027, Sky Hawk, going vertical. So far just a few supports have been installed, but with a coaster of this scale, it won't be too long until we see the first pieces of track going in as well. There is already a large amount of track and supports in the staging area for this construction project. 2027 will be a big year for families at the park, with the return of several classic kids rides as well as this large Vekoma Family Inverted Coaster. This addition comes shortly after the park opened their B&M Dive Machine named Wrath of Rakshasa in 2025. The timing of these additions is a little bit funky in my opinion, as it left the park without a new major addition for their 50th aniversary this year in 2026. But beggars can't be choosers, as another coaster just 2 years after a previous one is no small feat.
Six Flags Magic Mountain
In a teaser photo posted to the park's social media pages today, the long awaited annoucement of their next coaster is finally on the horizon. On September 3rd, the park will finally reveal the ever mysterious Vekoma Thrill Glider. What was orignally planned to be a 2024 project, then 2025, then 2026, is now finally going to open in 2027 (in theory). All joking aside, this should be a really solid addition to the park and one that will be coming at a time of uncertainty for one of the park's most iconic coasters X2. Ever since a guest injury occured on the coaster back in July of this year, the famous coaster has been closed. However, it may not be this incident causing this unexpected extended downtime for the coaster, but instead a pending court battle over the ride after a guest passed away shortly after riding back in 2022. This leaves the seemingly always problematic coaster's fate up in the air, with some speculating that the end may be near for this monster of a ride.
