Info Night Recap

Over the past week, we hosted two info nights in Loomis Laboratory for prospective members, where we went over our ongoing projects and the many ways to get involved in our chapter. We want to thank everyone who was able to attend for coming out and hearing about what we do-- If you couldn't make it, no worries! You're still free to show up to any of our project meetings, and you can view our info slides via the link below:

Interview and Elevator Pitch Workshop

Looking to showcase your best self at the career fair? Next Monday (9/9), recruiters from CDM Smith will be hosting an interview and elevator pitch workshop in Everitt 2233 from 6 to 7 PM. CDM Smith is a engineering / construction company that sponsors our chapter. Since career fair season is starting, this will be a great opportunity to develop your interpersonal skills and learn what kind of things companies are looking for! To register, click the link below:

Project Updates

This semester, the Malawi project team's main goals are to:

  • Submit their Implementation Pre-Trip Plan
  • Update and finalize their bridge design
  • Update and finalize their RFP and begin the bidding process
  • Continue fundraising efforts for the project

For incoming members, the team will prioritize delegating tasks that will build knowledge, such as drafting work.

On Tuesday, the ICP (International Community Program) project team held their first meeting of the semester, where they briefly introduced their potential project options and engaged in a pipeline building contest involving plastic cups and straws. Next week, the team will get a more detailed picture of their three options and begin voting for which project they want to accept.

As the Woodford project team gets the ball rolling on their project, they are continuing to search for an REIC (Responsible Engineer in Charge). Currently, the team is expecting to visit the community for the first time sometime in the spring.

Project Points

Project points are earned for a team every time a member of that project team attends EWB-UIUC fundraisers, socials, and other events. Whichever team has the most project points at the end of the semester wins a prize. Right off the bat, the Malawi project team has a head start after their tailgate sale last Thursday.

For those curious, the amount of project points earned is weighted by the event type. Details can be found here.
