About Us

The mission statement of UIUC ALCSI shall be to promote awareness for lung cancer screening for individuals at high-risk of developing lung cancer at UIUC and the larger local community through educational efforts, community outreach, and health literacy engagement. Activities may include advocating for Congress members to support a lung cancer bill, reforming lung cancer screening curriculum at local medical schools, presenting to various stakeholders to build awareness, and working with local health departments to bring actionable change to the local communities.

Members Benefits

ALCSI provides opportunities to meet other members (students, advocates, health professionals) who share interest in lung-cancer screening awareness and outreach. Additionally, being part of ALCSI provides leadership opportunities (officer roles, event planning, advocacy) which can be beneficial for career-preparation. Members also get to contribute to a meaningful cause: increasing awareness of lung-cancer screening, engaging communities, collaborating with health systems and government bodies. Finally, members gain knowledge about lung cancer screening eligibility, health policy, screening programs, and outreach strategy.
