What We Do

We are the Nu Xi Chapter!

Founded in 2016, the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign implemented it's own chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi, National Honorary Band Fraternity. Our central mission is to serve the Illinois Bands program. Our Director of Bands is Dr. Kevin Geraldi and our Chapter Sponsor is Professor Barry L. Houser.

Our chapter is the proud recipient of a Chapter Achievement Award (2017) and 2 Governor's Cup Finalist Awards (2023, 2024).

Illinois Bands is fortunate enough to have a wonderful support system of paid staff and generous donors. Our service focuses on emphasizing volunteer work for large wind band events that happen on campus. Our largest volunteer events of the year are the Illinois Marching Band Championships and the SuperState Concert Band Festival. The Nu Xi Chapter also aids in day to day servicing including supporting all wind band concerts, cleaning our historic Harding Band Building, running the Marching Illini Merchandise Cart, among other services.

Along with service, the Nu Xi Chapter values brotherhood and the beauty of music, whether we make it or support it. Our mascot pictured to the left is Xiggy the Iguana.

Our chapter is comprised of both music majors and non-music majors! You do not need to be a music major or in the Marching Illini to join our chapter.
