Illinois Rip Chords

The University's only competitive treble a cappella group.

About Us

Founded in 1992, this spirited group of singers perform at various events throughout the school year, singing a wide array of music genres. The Rip Chords annually compete in ICCA (International Championship of Collegiete A Cappella) and are the only treble group on campus to do so. Additionally, the Rip Chords professionally record music available on streaming platforms.

Like all a cappella groups at UIUC, the Rip Chords is an auditioned group. Auditions for the 2024-2025 school year will take place over the course of three days: August 26th-28th from 5-10 PM at David Kinley Hall. Callbacks will take place the evening of August 30th.
