ESPL Door Access

ESPL Door Access

ESDC is designed to support students working on multidisciplinary intercollegiate Competition Teams.   Students in teams that have been allocated space by the Engineering Design Council may request entry. In order to gain access to ESDC, which includes ESPL, ESDL, ESDL Annex, Civil Quonset Hut, and MechSE Machine Shop (for the purpose of access), prospective members must complete the following steps in this order: sign up on your team's roster, complete the DRS training modules, and complete the ESDC Door Access Test in Prairielearn.

Note that the ESPL Door Access just gets you into the doors of ESPL and you must take special additional safety training to access or use the ESDL Machine shops, MechSE Machine Shop or any of the CNCs Access, or use welding equipment. Training and tests must be specific to the equipment they will use.  See the ESDC machine shop access tab for more details.

Sign up on your Team's Roster

In order to start working towards access, you must be on an Engineering Design Council Sponsored team and then successfully complete the training and tests outlined below. Each team's leadership will add members to the official roster.

If you are on multiple teams you must be on every team's roster, but only need to complete the following steps once.

Division of Research Safety (DRS) Training Modules

After getting on your team's roster, the next step is to complete the DRS Laboratory Safety modules.

1) Hazard Communication Training (valid indefinitely)

2) Compressed Gas Safety training (valid indefinitely)

3) Electrical Safety: Fundamentals (valid indefinitely)

4) Fire Extinguisher Training (valid for 1 year)

5) Laboratory Safety Training Parts I + II (valid for 3 years)

They are found on the DRS website under the training tab, but can also be accessed by clicking the above links.  For returning students, please note that all trainings must be valid until at least August 1st after the end of the current academic year.  Once you have taken the DRS exams, download the certificates and send them to your team's safety officer for their records.

Take the Prairielearn ESDC Door Access Test

Watch the Respiratory Fit Check Video and the High Voltage DC and Lithium-Ion Battery Hazard Awareness video. Then, read and understand the ESDC Safety Policy and Procedures. You will then take the ESDC Door Access Test by yourself, which is based on these materials. You must score 100% on this test. Tests will be checked weekly on Tuesday, and access will typically be granted by end of business hours Friday.  This exam must be completed yearly.
