Lessons
Lessons are held at Meg's Riding Academy in Tolono, IL. This is about a 20 minute drive off campus, but carpools are available so cars are not required. Each lesson costs $45. They are one hour each (tacking and untacking included).
The Team
Western riding is IHSA is judged on Horsemanship, or how correct the rider looks in the saddle and cues the horse. Upper level riders can also compete in Ranch Riding and Reining.
To join, all you have to do is take two lessons before a show, and own a pair of jeans as well as boots. There is a team closet where we have show shirts, chaps, and hats to borrow, though sizes may be limited. Contact our Western Team Coordinator at abbyw4@illinois.edu for any further questions.
